Building the clean energy cluster on the Space Coast
On Tuesday, May 17th, we met with members of the Space Coast Clean Energy Consortium to update their cluster strategy for building a clean energy economy on the Space Coast.
Industry representatives identified three commercial pilot possibilities to leverage clean energy assets within Central Florida and the state. These pilots will focus the activities of the cluster over the next three to six months.
These pilots include:
- Applications of superconductivity and cryogenics, including large motors and generators and power modulation systems in offshore wind energy systems;
- Portable production facilities for conversion of biomass (such as agricultural waste products) to liquid fuels; and
- Integrated roofing systems that include solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, as well as other components.
Participants explored ways to connect these initiatives with various state and Federal partners, including NASA, the National Renewable Energy Lab, Florida Solar Energy Center, FSU's National High Magnetic Field Lab, and the state's economic development initiatives.
The Consortium will now update its Strategic Action Plan to reflect these decisions. The Consortium is using a new agile strategy process, Strategic Doing, to guide and focus its activities. Strategy-Nets is guiding the process.
